SHOT Show University - A&D Book

Harry McCabe - Form 4473Central to any FFL’s compliance program is accurate and timely maintenance of the Acquisition and Disposition (A&D) Book (also known as the Bound Book). It is the one document that tells the tale of a firearm’s coming and going from a specific Federal Firearms Licensee’s location, and it is a crucial resource for regular inventory accountability, for law enforcement in the event of a theft or other crime and for the FFL in the event of a firearm’s loss due to natural disaster or other crises.

Our 2018 SHOT Show University session, “The Next Piece of the Compliance Puzzle — The A&D Book,” is designed to keep your firearms Bound Book on the straight and narrow. The A&D Book is the second-highest source of ATF citations, and trying to maintain it properly can create questions and confusion for even the most seasoned firearms retailer. Former ATF deputy assistant directors Harry McCabe and Wally Nelson will delve into each section of the A&D Book, reviewing the common errors retailers make, clarifying the data required and providing background on why particular information is necessary. The review will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

Wally Nelson - 4473Taking place Monday, Jan. 22, the day before the 2018 SHOT Show opens, SHOT Show University is NSSF’s premier learning experience for retailers and range owners, providing business owners of all experience levels ways to improve their businesses. The forum is comprised of four learning tracks: Range, Compliance, Retailer 101 and the Master’s Class. Anyone attending SHOT Show University can take part in the learning tracks of their choice, but the session “The Next Piece of the Compliance Puzzle—The A&D Book,” part of the Compliance track, is particularly recommended for firearms inventory managers, new FFLs, those currently going through the FFL licensing process and for recently on-boarded staff members of current FFLs.
